SAMSUNG CEO APOLOGIZES FOR GALAXY S22 APP THROTTLING CONTROVERSY

Samsung plans software updates in Samsung Galaxy S22 to fix ‘app throttle issue, Samsung has announced that on Friday it would begin an update for its software “as soon as it is feasible” to address complaints from consumers about an app that was preinstalled and that is limiting the speed of Galaxy S22 smartphones.

The problem is caused by it being caused by the Game Optimising Service (GOS) application for phones that automatically limits the performance of phones when it determines that an app that is gaming operating.

The South Korean tech giant said it will include a feature within its game launcher application that will allow users to set priorities for performance by updating the software.

Further details about the way this option will operate are expected to be revealed at a later date.

Samsung earlier explained that the GOS app was installed on the devices to stop them from overheating and burning out battery too fast when gaming to ensure consumer safety.

Beyond limiting gaming performance there have been inconsistent posts in social networks as well as South Korean community forums that GOS has had an impact on the performance of other apps that are not gaming. Samsung has refuted these assertions, claiming that the GOS application only affects gaming applications.

The GOS app is not something new to Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series and has been present on earlier versions of Galaxy smartphones.

For older models, gamers did have ways to bypass the feature, however, these are now removed by Samsung’s most recent OneUI 4.1 update.

Since the launch of sales for Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series, numerous complaints have been made public on Samsung’s community forums for South Korean consumers and user community pages.
