The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Huawei Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding in order to bridge the digital divide and decrease the gender gap by helping women become empowered through digital technology all over Pakistan across Punjab, KPY, and Sindh starting with.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Special Advisor to Prime Minister Pakistan for the issue of poverty alleviation as well as Social Protection Dr. Sania Nishter, Federal Secretary (IT and T) Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, PTA Chairman Maj Gen(r) Amir Azeem Bajwa, the CEO of Jazz Ms. Aamir Ibrahim, CEO Ufone Mr. Hatem Bamatraf, CEO Telenor Pakistan Mr. Irfan Wahab Khan The Deputy CEO of Huawei Pakistan Mr. Ahmed Bilal Masud, and Wu Han, Mr. Wu Han, along with other members of the signatory parties.
Dr. Sania Nishter and PTA applauded all the participants and Huawei’s efforts in promoting gender equality as well as Women Empowerment.
Connectivity to the Internet and a better understanding of digital technology could allow women to create new businesses and sell their products to new markets, and find jobs that are competitive and get access to health, education, and financial services, as well as actively participating in the public realm and improving the exchange of information. The gap between women and men in Pakistan’s ICT use has not diminished in recent years. This MoU signing will aim to change this.
Huawei plans to aid PTA in launching projects to help reduce the digital gender gap through awareness programs and learning digital skills for women. In this context, Huawei plans to launch courses that are aimed at 500 women by 2022. Huawei is also planning to assist PTA by hosting events, training sessions, and other activities to encourage Gender Inclusion in ICTs in cooperation with other organizations. The increased focus will pave the way for women’s participation in ICT academy programs, CSR projects as well as providing tools at a low cost such as phones, gadgets, and phones that women can use to assist with effortless learning.
