Study Explores How a Robot’s Inner Speech Influences a Human User’s Trust
Study explores how a robot’s inner speech affects a human user’s trust in the robot and also how the human user reacts to this affectation. The study was carried out by a group of French professors that used four different types of robots to interact with a number of humans who were not professionals. The first group of human participants were given a simple task such as opening a bottle of wine. The other two groups of human participants were each paired with a different robot. This means that each pair of robots had a completely different relationship with the human participants.
In one case a robot that mimics a human toddler responded very favourably to its owner, while in another case this relationship was completely reversed. Furthermore, in another case the robot behaved aggressively and this caused the user to fear. When the robot in question repeated its response to the user’s fear it earned the users trust.
The first experiment tested whether or not humans would be able to differentiate between different types of artificial intelligence. In this test three different robots were programmed with very different characteristics. These robots were the same design but different in colour. It was found that robots would be able to distinguish between these designs. The second test showed that these robots could in fact distinguish between red and green lights and this helped them to distinguish different actions.
The third and last test showed that the robot would be able to recognise a human voice when the voice was delivered by a human user. The voice was played to the robot at different intervals. In this way the robot was able to determine the emotion of the human user. This demonstrates that a robot can tell the difference between different emotions and this in turn would allow robots to be more trustworthy.
The experiments concluded that the creators of these robots realised that they still needed to work on the AI (artificial intelligent) system within the robot. They therefore wanted to test if it was possible for a robot to understand human speech. Their hypothesis was that a robot with a pre-programmed knowledge of how to behave would be able to fool a human into believing that it was a human. This means that a robot that knew how to behave would not need any human interaction in order to convince a human that it was a human. However, the creators of the robots still needed to make sure that these robots were trustworthy and only wanted to be as good as possible.
In the first test the researchers asked each human participant to rate the robot on its ability to converse with different types of humans. The participants also were asked to rate the robot on its appearance and on how it looked like. The results showed that robots with the same basic features did not always receive the same scores. This shows that the robot should have different features and that the different features would affect how humans perceived them. With these tests the researchers found that robots with different voice patterns influence human trust in a different way than what they had anticipated.
In this final test the researchers repeated the same tests that they performed before with the first robot and again recorded the results. Again, the results were different. In this last test, the human participants gave higher ratings to robots with a smooth, rich voice and a voice that they could easily understand. They also gave lower ratings to robots that had different voices and a high-pitched voice.
In conclusion, the researchers believe that the reason why people are afraid of robots is because they do not understand the robot’s inner speech. This is because the robot cannot express its different emotions and needs in the same way as a real person. However, by understanding the way that humans process language the researcher was able to apply this knowledge to future robots and better their ability to interact with humans.
