Best Selling Science Fiction Movies of All Time
Novelty movies are movies that tell stories based on the future, aliens, or spaceships. Most science fiction movies are very much dependent on the imagination of the director or the writer. Many movies involving ships and spaceships have been created just for the entertainment value or to illustrate how advanced our culture has become. They are filled with explosions and unbelievable feats of engineering. Science fiction movies are also very much dependent on special effects to present visions of strange worlds or other terrestrial worlds far off. Some of the most well known science fiction movies are:
Star Wars. One of the most famous science fiction movies ever made is Star Wars. Star Wars tells the story of a space adventure in outer space. The main characters are Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, who are two legendary fighters from the Star Wars series. Although there were many sequels, the original trilogy still stands as one of the best science fiction movies ever made. It is not only a great science movie but it is also a fantastic movie for kids to enjoy.
X-Men. If you love the X-Men franchise then you will love X-Men. The X-Men series is an incredible saga that tells the story of a group of young scientists who develop a serum that can be used to completely transform people. With this serum a person’s skin can be changed into a super strong and durable body. X-Men films have won six Academy Awards and more than 2 billion dollars have been produced in box office alone. As one of the biggest and best sci-fi movies ever made, X-Men has created a new sub-genre that continues to feature well in science fiction movies and television shows today.
Apes! Yes, the quintessential science fiction movie is Apes! It is set around 20 years after the original Apes movie and features Michael Douglas, director and co-writer Robert Towne, and producer Steven Spielberg. In Apes, Michael Douglas plays a man who finds himself trapped in the African wilderness with no way out. With the help of a trained monkey, he must learn to survive and find out what happened to his home.
Star Trek. Star Trek is one of the greatest science fiction films ever made. Star trek featured the cast and crew from many different countries. It took four years for the show to air, which makes it one of the most popular of all time. The show takes place in spaced out space and involves the crew traveling to different worlds to seek out new life and civilizations.
Blade Runner. Probably one of the most futuristic science fiction movies, Blade Runner is set up around twenty years after the events of the first film. The protagonist, who is played by Noomi Rapace, a replicant human, has been ordered to look after a dilapidated human colony, and she must find out what happened there and if the human race will commit to protecting the dilapidated planet.
The Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings is a huge franchise, which started with the release of the first film, The Fellowship of the Ring. The trilogy, The Rings, The Fellowship of the Shire, and the two sequels, The Search for the Ring and The Two Towers, have earned a huge amount of critical acclaim and popularity. Peter Jackson’s trilogy is also highly considered as science fiction films of the year because of its innovative and ambitious story structure. LOTR takes place in Middle Earth, and while on that plane, Tolkien introduced many iconic characters, places, and objects to Middle Earth that have since become beloved by fans all over the world. LOTR also boasts a stellar list of talented actors, and some of the best known names in the science fiction genre include Andy Firefly, Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow, Hugo Weaving, and Peter Sellers.
The Matrix. Since the release of the Neo franchise in the late 90s, there has been an immense resurgence of interest in classic science fiction movies like The Matrix. In the movie, Neo was pitted against robots he thought were sent by evil forces to prevent him from interfering with their plans; Neo was able to defeat the robots, although he was left with a scar that would remain his forever. Because of the success of the Neo franchise, the future of movie franchises in the science fiction realm are looking brighter, and franchises like The Phantom Menace are on their way to becoming massive box office hits. Perhaps the next wave of Matrix movies will feature Neo as an older man, and have him battling villains from the past while using his knowledge and skills to prevent further danger for the future.
