Almost 100 Xbox Games Now Look Better Thanks to “FPS Boost”

Games like Assassin’s Creed and Alien Isolation will now run a lot better at no extra cost to you.

FPS Boost on Xbox

Microsoft has been hard at work bringing old classics into the next generation with enhanced framerates. Now, the company boasts 97 old titles that now work with the Xbox Series X and S’s FPS Boost feature.

Which Games Support the Xbox’s FPS Boost Feature?

Major Nelson, who works as the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, maintains a list of FPS Boost games on his website. He’ll often introduce some more games into FPS Boost and update his list as need be.

Recently, Nelson released “[the] largest drop of games featuring FPS Boost,” bringing the total up to 97. The list now has some heavy-hitters amongst the ranks, such as Alien Isolation, several Assassins Creed games, the Life Is Strange series, and even Untitled Goose Game.

This comes as a pleasant surprise, as Nelson only recently announced FPS Boost for a handful of EA Play games. Now, people who enjoy dipping into the past will find their favorite games running smoother than ever on Xbox Series X and S.

In fact, Microsoft’s choice to bring EA Play games onto FPS Boost was no coincidence. Games from both EA’s library and the Xbox Game Pass have priority for enhancements, presumably because they allow people to unlock revamped classics for a single monthly fee.

It’s worth noting that there may be performance differences depending on if you run the game on the Xbox Series X or its weaker brother, the Series S. For instance, Battlefield 1 can hit 120Hz on the Xbox Series X, but the Series S can’t manage the same result.

Also, it would be best if you took note that not every game will have its enhancements enabled by default. Before you rush off and dig through your library, be sure to double-check if your supported game requires manual activation of FPS Boost to avoid disappointment.

A Huge Boost to the FPS Boost Supported List

If you love playing your old games on new consoles, the Xbox Series X and S will not only run it; it may even enhance it, too. Now, even more of your library just got turbo-charged for free thanks to FPS Boost.

As such, even if you’re not a huge fan of the current generation of games, it may be worth upgrading from an Xbox One to an Xbox Series X. The new hardware and the FPS Boost feature help breathe new life into your old library of games.
